- What is SMC?
- SMC(sheet moulding compound) based on NPG/ISO/ORO unsaturated polyester resin/ Vinyl ester resin or Epoxy resin, fiberglass woven roving or chopped strand or carbon fiber reinforced, contains mineral fillers and other materials. SMC materials are thermosets and contain glass or carbon reinforcement levels between 18 and 60 percent. The longer fibres in SMC result in better strength properties.
- What is the production status of your SMC/BMC?
- The production capacity of the SMC production line is 50,000 tons, and that of the BMC production line is 20,000 tons. There are 5 compression molding presses of various specifications including 3000-ton, 2000-ton and 1500-ton models.
- What is the difference between SMC and BMC?
- SMC uses long continuous glass fibers in sheet form; BMC uses short chopped fibers with higher fluidity for complex small parts.
- What are the main advantages of SMC products?
- SMC features high strength, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, flame retardancy and stable dimensional accuracy.
- What is the shelf life of SMC?
- Usually you can keep 5~6 months from production to use, if in the suitable storage condition. Please store it in and keep in a cool, ventilated and dry place below 25 deg C. Avoid fire, keep away from heat and radiation sources. Avoid water and prohibit exposure to sunlight and open storage. For foreign customers, we will use Reefer container (18C temperature). Once you open the package, please use it all during three days.
- How do you pack the SMC?
- We use zig-zag way to load into the pallet. Pallet size: 1.06*1.06*1meters, 1200kg per pallet. (+/-5% difference) In 20ft Reefer container, load 22000kg (22tons), 20pallets. The materials are sealed with multi-layer PP film packaging, plus aluminium-plated film to prevent the Light Source. The outer layer is packed in multi-layer cartons and fumigation-free pallets.
- What molding process is used for SMC for reference?
- The molding parameters are specified as follows: for pressing time, roughly 1 minute per 1 mm of product thickness in principle, with adjustments allowed based on actual conditions; for pressing temperature, the mold surface temperature shall be 146-150 deg C on the front (product bright side) and 138-142 deg C on the reverse side; for molding pressure, it should be higher than 100 Kgf/cm2 (supplementing the presumed missing unit cm2 for completeness).
- Could I get SMC sample for test?
- Yes, we provide ~20kgs free samples for new customers.
- Why do bubbles appear on the surface of SMC?
- a. High mold temperature will lead to bubbles on the surface of the final product. b. Also, reducing the closing speed of the mold is helpful to the air discharge in the mold cavity.
- I need to increase production efficiency. What solutions are there?
- Formula adjustment: Adopt fast-curing SMC resin system to shorten the curing time per unit thickness (original standard: 1 min/mm), which will meanwhile reduce the shelf life. Press adjustment: Conduct trial tests by using higher-tonnage presses or appropriately raising the press temperature for parameter optimization.
- Can SMC products be customized in color?
- Yes, pigments can be added during SMC production to realize customized colors per customer requirements.
- What is the minimum order quantity for customized SMC
- The MOQ varies based on customized formulas, colors and production arrangements. We will confirm the specific minimum quantity after communicating your detailed requirements.
- What industries use SMC components?
- SMC is widely used in electrical, transportation, construction, new energy and sanitary equipment industries.
- What customized SMC services can you provide, such as flame retardancy, Class A surface finish and electrical insulation?
